BC PNP Opens Registration for Rural and Remote Health-Support Initiative
The BC Provincial Nominee Program has opened registration for the Temporary Rural/Remote Health Support Initiative, a one-time pathway aimed at retaining certain health authority workers in rural and remote communities in British Columbia. According to the BC PNP, the initiative is available to eligible workers who are already employed by a B.C. health authority in cleaning or security roles and who meet the program criteria set out in the current Skills Immigration Program Guide. Registration is open from June 15 to August 31, 2026, and the BC PNP has stated that it may nominate up to 250 candidates through this initiative.
Who This Initiative Is For
This initiative is not a general health-care pathway. It is limited to certain B.C. health authority employees who are currently working in eligible cleaning or security occupations in a rural or remote part of the province. According to the BC PNP Skills Immigration Program Guide, applicants must be direct employees of one of B.C.’s public health authorities, have support from their health authority employer, and be working in one of the eligible occupations: security guards and related security service occupations, light duty cleaners, or janitors, caretakers and heavy-duty cleaners. The Express Entry BC option is not available for this initiative.
The guide also sets out several important limits. Employees of contractors providing services to a health authority are not eligible. The applicant must have been working full-time, year-round, for at least nine consecutive months immediately before registering, in an eligible occupation with the same health authority employer. The work location must also be in a rural or remote part of B.C., and some regional districts are excluded, subject to limited exceptions for certain islands in the Capital Regional District.
This makes the initiative potentially important for a specific group of workers, but it also means eligibility will be highly fact-specific. Applicants should confirm their occupation, employer, work location, length of qualifying employment, income history, education, and employer support before registering.
